Dislocating Contexts, 2004-05
two related investigations; site specific installation (dislocating contexts) + public video screenings (the box within)

The Box Within is a video of part of an investigation entitled Inside Out that looked to capture the inside of Jordanian homes and screen them outside in public spaces.  The Jordanian visual scape has evolved in the past decade reflecting a changing concept of private/public space, and more importantly a shame associated with exposing the private realm.  Parallel to that was the ironic boom in Satellite Reality TV programs in the Middle East.

Dislocating Contexts, 2004
IInstallation; 378 x 266 cm Ink Bit-Map, Neons and gaslight, painted walls. Dimensions variable.

A mega-pink room, stacked neons, and a bit-map.  A neutral space gone wrong, or aesthetics re-assessed.  A space open for public scrutiny and devoid of privacy.  A photo installation that dwells on the metaphorics of being disoriented and disengaged; of being dislocated.  The elements of light, movement, color and pixel are used, and contradiction emerges in the process.  The photo was taken in Burj-el-Shmali refugee camp in South Lebanon, January 2004.
